Week 1: Wings & Wonder
Soar into a world of imagination! Monday 7/21 - Friday 7/25, 9am-3pm
Description
Soar into a week of artistic exploration as we celebrate the marvels of flight! Young artists will discover the fascinating intersection of science and art while studying everything from delicate butterfly wings to dynamic bird movements. Drawing inspiration from both master artists and nature itself, students will create works that capture the beauty and wonder of creatures and human inventions that take to the sky. Throughout the week, children will explore diverse artistic techniques including printmaking, sculpture, scientific illustration, and mixed media. They'll learn from artists like Alexander Calder, who captured movement in his mobiles, and Maria Sibylla Merian, whose detailed insect studies revolutionized scientific illustration. Students will discover how Japanese kite artists transform functional objects into stunning works of art, and how geometric patterns in nature can inspire amazing artistic creations. Each project combines careful observation with creative expression, helping young artists develop both technical skills and artistic confidence. From mapping butterfly migrations to printing honeycomb patterns, students will gain a deeper appreciation for the natural world while building fundamental art techniques. Perfect for young naturalists, budding scientists, and creative spirits who dream of taking flight!
